Little Tidies Go A Long Way!

"Oh no! I'm starting the new semester today and the house is a mess" I said to myself as I woke up this morning. I also knew that I had to finish reading a 300-page book that I was only halfway through and write an 8-page paper on it by Saturday at 8 PM. Have any of you ever had similar thoughts of panic? Maybe for you it was more like "Oh no! The house is a mess and we have guests coming over this weekend!" Whatever it is for you, I knew I could jump right into schoolwork in the chaos, or I could take care of the chaos and continue in peace. I chose peace! I calmly grabbed the broom and just started sweeping. Sweeping for me has always seemed therapeutic. Maybe you can relate or maybe you think I'm crazy, but I digress. Perhaps this is why I chose to be a cleaning lady as a living. Then I chose a few surfaces to wipe off and dust. I know this is backward cleaning and you're supposed to clean from top to bottom, but little tidying is not about perfection but about giving you a quick boost of confidence to set you up for success for the day! Before I knew it, I not only felt accomplished but began to notice the difference in my space and was ready to tackle my schoolwork!

Don't Wait For The Time & Energy

What's my point? My point in all of this is to show you how doing little things here and there can make a huge difference. A lot of the times we think that in order to clean we have to have the time and the energy to do it all at once. That couldn't be further from the truth! For many of us, that day never comes and before we know it, our house is out of control and seems even more overwhelming to get started than ever! I understand life is crazy and busy and especially if you have little ones this seems like an impossible task. I'd love to tell you more about cleaning with little ones in the house but I'm saving that for a whole separate blog post so please make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!

Smaller Task Tackle List

I made a list of some smaller tasks that you can do one at a time or pair together and do in some spare time to help you stay on top of your space and de-stress your life! Save this for later or post it on your fridge so you can start helping your mental clarity!

"The Stuff"

Two things I've noticed in my years of experience as a professional cleaning lady is that people usually feel overwhelmed by their homes for one of two reasons. The first one is that they have way too much stuff. Every corner and surface is just overflowing with stuff. From nick knacks to papers they need to sort through, chargers they don't even know belong to anything they own anymore... the list goes on. This is overwhelming because the more clutter you have the more stuff you have to move in order to clean. Also, clutter is non-motivating to begin with. The second reason is that their house may not have as many things in it but it is just not organized. Every item needs a place to belong. Most people do not recognize that getting little containers to put stuff in or simply taking some of "the stuff" and tucking it away in an organized manner into a drawer or cabinet helps your space look less stressful and you're able to find things easier too. Another task that solves this issue is to throw out what you do not need or have duplicates of. Minimalist living helps destress our lives. Now, I'm not telling you to throw everything out or push that pile of papers that have been sitting on the counter for a month right into the trash without looking at it. What I am saying is to start small and start today.
